The final of the 2023-24 Open Club Championship was held on Sunday 7 April. The two protagonists, Peter Gillin and Ron Crosling fought it out over 16 ends of high-standard bowling. The scorecard shows just how close the game was. After 15 ends it was still anyone’s game. Peter was able to achieve the only multiple of the game on the 16th end with two shots, giving him the victory by one shot. The picture shows the two shots at the last end. The game was marked by our club president Ron Osborne. testing

On Wednesday 9 February, we hosted, by mutual invitation, another retirement village, Lifestyle Casey Fields Cranbourne here at the Village. Four teams (each of 4 players) from each club enjoyed a great day in perfect bowling weather and later joined together socially. I am pleased to report we were successful taking the honours of this inaugural event on the day (although its not really important who won). It is planned for a return match to be played in the next couple of months at their home venue. It is our hope these matches will become an annual event and even grow into an annual challenge with other retirement villages joining in a group challenge. Thanks to Ron Osborne and his helpers for organising the day and making it such a success

BAXTER Village is a retirement village situated in South Frankston. Date Formed: 28/5/1983. Official Opening of Green : 7/9/1983. Affiliated: 7/9/1983. Region: P.B.A./Casey Region. First President Male: Harry McDonald. Female Edith Simon. First Secretary Wal Liebert. First Treasurer Wal Liebert. History. On 19/2/1980 a committee was formed to develop an 8 rink grass green, which eventually was officially opened on 7/9/1983. The following officials were in attendance. President of R.V.B.A. (David Parker) President P.D.B.L.A. (Phyll Pullen) The original grass green was proving to be a constant problem, levelling, top dressing and maintenance were becoming an issue. In 1988 a meeting was held with a recommendation to replace the existing green with a synthetic surface. To finance the new green a Co-Operative was formed and in September 1990 the new surface was completed which proved to be a very good investment. In 1999 the club voted to have one unified committee. Again in 2005 the surface was replaced this surface is now 10 years old and the Village has agreed to once again replace surface in mid-2016, club members are looking forward to playing on it. For a number of years the club did not field any pennant sides however in 2014 the club re-entered the Mid-Week pennant in the P.B.A division 5 and went on to win the final, they were promoted to division 4 in 2015 and were once again in the final unfortunately they were narrowly beaten and were runners up. The team has consistently finished the season in the top four.
